Are you wondering how you can get more focused and committed to your biggest goals?
Are you tired of setting goals, writing them out but then never taken action? That used to be me. Year after year I’d set a bunch of goals at the beginning of the year and end up disappointed at the end of the year because I didn’t stick with any of them. I didn’t do the things, I didn’t take the trips, get organized or run the 5km.
Tip Toeing outside my Comfort Zone
A couple of years ago I finally woke up and slowly started tip toeing outside my comfort zone. I joined a volunteer group (something I had wanted to do for years), I took a course for women in business started a handmade business and kept pushing for more.
We Don’t get to Live Forever
I slowly was getting more and more comfortable stretching myself beyond the bounds of the comfort I had been a slave to for years when my son Braedon got sick. He passed just five months after his first symptom. To really give you some perspective, the day before that first symptom he worked at his part time job and the day before that he went to school for what would become the last time. Life is fragile friends. In our minds we think we’ll live forever. We think we’ll always have more time. I wake up everyday now to a world without my baby; yes he was 18 but he was still my baby. Everyday that reminds me how valuable and precious every single day and moment of our lives is. You don’t get to live forever.
This year, this month, this week, this day, this hour, this minute, this moment is priceless. Don’t squander it by telling yourself next week, Monday or the new year, Tell yourself today. Today is the day I will take that step. I will make that call. I will write the first paragraph. I will run 1 minute. I will take action.
I really want you to be successful. I want to you to live your wildest dreams and become the most extraordinary version of yourself. Please don’t waste your one precious life delaying your happiness, joy, triumphs, and successes. Use these tips and START TODAY!
Three Tips to Help you Supercharge your Biggest Goals
- Connect your goals to your identity. This really helped me when I quit smoking almost eight years ago. I never thought about it that way at the time but when I read about connecting your goals to your identity I instantly thought that’s what I did. I thought about and focused on being a good role model for my son. I focused on being healthy and vibrant. Not coughing and getting winded. I didn’t think of it as a loss like I had in all of my previous attempts to quit smoking I thought of it as a win. Many people who have quit for years still want to smoke. They still crave it when they see others smoking, when they’re emotional or have an alcohol beverage in hand. I can honestly say I’m 100% cured. It doesn’t cross my mind.
- Connect your goals to a project. I chose brave as my word of the year for 2019. I wanted to be in honor of Braedon who faced his second life-threatening illness with courage and bravery far beyond his years. I didn’t just want to pick a word of the year and forget about it so I decided to launch my #100bravethings project. Launching this project and sharing it here on the blog has made me so much more intention. Read my latest #19 here.
- Get other People involved in your Goals. I did some really big hikes this summer that I definitely wouldn’t have done if my husband weren’t there pushing me to keep going. I’m doing a 5km on December 31! I am running in Winter. Outdoors. I’m allergic to winter. I don’t like the word hate so I’ll say I very strongly detest winter, being cold snow and giant jackets and all the other gear I need to stay warm. I’m doing this with some friends though and am looking forward to finally crossing that 5km off my list!
